Oddly, an area which is by far closest to Woodstock, and is on the exact opposite side of Kennesaw from Acworth, is also wrongly considered Acworth by the USPS. Incorporated in 1840 on December 1, the town was named by Western & Atlantic Railroad engineer Joseph L. Gregg in 1843 for his hometown of Acworth, New Hampshire, which was in turn named for English nobleman Lord Acworth. Its original name was Northcutt Station, after the first railroad station master Alfred Northcutt. Acworth Beach is located on nearby Lake Allatoona.
